Offers for postgraduate posts for the coming academic year

Offers for postgraduate posts in my Research Group for the coming academic year

The Research Group I direct at the University of Girona has specialised in the subject of migratory movements for several years, mainly through our work in the Chair of Immigration, Rights and Citizenship. Based on our past experience, we are seeking to widen our field of research to encompass any form of international business and worker mobility, in the hope of applying for and being granted a Spanish or European Project. Consequently, we are open to any suggestions or collaboration in this regard, which other entities may wish to provide.

As a starting point, in the 2015-2016 academic year the University of Girona will be offering its own blended learning Master degree programme.

The Master’s degree is called: Master in Labour Management of International Business and Workers’ Activities

This Master aims to provide employers and employees with in-depth knowledge on how to manage human resources in accordance with current labour laws, placing special emphasis on exceptions related to the internationalisation of their activities.

It is divided into 4 postgraduate courses:

1. The first course addresses Employment contract management, working conditions and dismissals

The labour laws affecting the rights and responsibilities of employers and employees are dealt with in this course; in particular, in the different stages of an employment contract: itsentry into force, duration, and termination. Specialattention is paid to cases in which these contracts are intended for workers providing services abroad.

2. The second course addresses the study of Work-related migration movements.

This course is aimed at dealing with the law and its practical application in relation to both foreigners wishing to enter Spain (immigration),and the native population (foreigners with residence permits and Spanish nationals) wishing to emigrate to other countries for work-related purposes.

3. The third postgraduate course refers to: Social Security: Personnel Administration.

Of special importance in the labour management of international business and workers’ activities is the communication and notification system with Social Security authorities. This course looks at the best way to manage all the formalities required by the Social Security system to draw up employment contracts or enter intocommercial agreements with other companies.

4. The fourth and final course is:Posted workers and trans-border employment.

This course addresses regulation in relation to trans-border employment and its practical application, as well as the relocation of employees; i.e. not only the so-called intra-company relocation (when a company sends one of its employees to a subsidiary in another country),but also trans-national relocations to deliver services from one company to another; in other words, when a company sends one of its employees abroad to deliver services to other companies.

The aim of these courses is for students to acquire specialised knowledge in European, Spanish and Catalan legislation and their practical application in the area of international business and worker dynamics, covering all aspects of employer-employee relations, immigration and emigration to other countries, the intervention of labour authorities, especially the Social Security institutions, as well as placingparticular emphasis on trans-border employment, which in the area of Girona is of special interest, due to its proximity to France.

The teaching staff of this Master includes key lecturers from the Department of Labour and Social Security Law and the Chair of Immigration, Rights and Citizenship of the University of Girona: Dr. Ignacio Camós, Dr. Mercedes Martínez, Dr.Judit Baseiria, Professor Mónica Polo, and myself. Also participating is Dr. Eduardo Rojo, the first Director of the Chair of Immigration of the University of Girona.
