New activities for the 2016-2017 academic year

As part of my duties as Director of the Department of Labour and Social Security Law and Director of the Chair of Immigration, Rights and Citizenship of the University of Girona, and with the help of the teams from both departments, I have planned a series of activities that I am delighted to present as follows:

1. Firstly, during September 2016 I have been invited to take part in the Residential Summer School organized by the University of Ferrara and Padova to give two lectures on "Multinational enterprises faced with global migratory movements: facilitation or obstruction of international labour mobility?" and "Multinational enterprises and the promotion of decent employment inspired by the International Labour Organization: special attention to the access to employment, training and working conditions".

I opted for the subject of international migration due to the rise in importance that migration movements have been gaining worldwide and to know to what extent international initiatives and declarations on multinational enterprises have embraced this issue.

On the subject of my second participation in this summer school - decent work – I aim to find out what the main failings are worldwide at present and the extent to which instruments on multinational enterprises and their supply chains are helping to remedy them.

2. Furthermore, in October we are planning to start the 2nd edition of the Master's in Labour Management of International Business and Workers' Activities.

This Master aims to provide employers and employees with in-depth knowledge on how to manage human resources in accordance with current labour laws, placing special emphasis on exceptions related to the internationalisation of their activities.

It is divided into 4 postgraduate courses:

-The first course addresses Employment contract management, working conditions and dismissals.

-The second course addresses the study of Work-related migration movements.

-The third postgraduate course refers to: Social Security: Personnel Administration.

-The fourth and final course is: Posted workers and trans-border employment.

3. Naturally, I will be teaching the University of Girona degree and Master degree programmes, in which my speciality will be the subject of study, particularly in the Law degree and especially in the Master’s in Work, Labour Relations and Human Resources. My commitment in this Master degree programme is to teach the subject entitled "Legal strategies in the area of Labour Relations". I also hope to be teaching this subject in cooperation with Dr. Jean-Michel Servais, a visiting lecturer in our Department and also a specialist in an area I am passionate about: International Labour Law and European Social Law.

Finally, my research work will be focused mainly on the connection between work-related migration worldwide and ensuring decent working conditions for migrants. I hope that publications arising from this research will be of your interest!
